Jumeirah Bali welcomes guests to experience the tranquillity of Nyepi, Bali’s Day of Silence, with an immersive journey into cultural reflection and renewal. On 29 March (Caka 1947), Nyepi will be observed across the island, a day dedicated to quietude, allowing nature and the soul to reset in perfect harmony as part of Bali’s Saka New Year traditions.
The celebration begins on the eve of Nyepi, 28 March, with Pengerupukan Day, a time when the island comes alive with rituals curated to cleanse the past and prepare for renewal. At 4.30 PM in Trowulan, the Mecaru Ceremony will mark the start of the evening, offering to restore balance between humans and nature. As dusk falls, the Kecak Dance captivates with its rhythmic chanting and storytelling, followed by the Tedung Dance, which symbolises protection. The evening continues with the Rangda Dance, a powerful depiction of transformation, before culminating in the Ogoh-Ogoh Parade. This awe-inspiring procession features towering effigies crafted by local artist, I Putu Darmayasa, from Ungasan village, South Kuta. In Balinese folklore, Ogoh-Ogoh effigies represent Bhuta Mandar and Bhuta Mandir, dark spirits believed to embody disruptive energies. Through rituals and the grand parade, these energies are symbolically purified, restoring balance before the silent day of Nyepi.

For those seeking a deeper retreat, Jumeirah Bali presents “A Journey of Serenity at Jumeirah Bali”, an exclusive villa experience available for stays from 27 March – 6 April, with a minimum two-night stay between 28-30 March. The offer includes daily breakfast, along with a one-time dinner for two on 29 March. To honour the essence of Nyepi, no check-ins or check-outs will be available on 29 March.
On the morning of 29 March, Bali surrenders to stillness. The streets remain empty, businesses close, and flights pause, creating a rare and calming stillness – a moment not just of silence, but an invitation to reflect and renew. Guests at Jumeirah Bali are welcome to embrace this stillness within their private villa sanctuaries, surrounded by the dramatic beauty of Uluwatu’s coastline. The Indian Ocean stretches endlessly, golden sunlight filters through lush gardens, and without artificial light, the night sky reveals an expanse of stars, offering a rare glimpse into Bali’s celestial serenity.
With its Majapahit-inspired architecture and a setting designed for tranquility, Jumeirah Bali offers a retreat designed to encourage disconnection from the outside world and reconnection with oneself. Here, Nyepi is more than a day of silence, it is an invitation to slow down, reflect, and begin anew with clarity and mindfulness. From sweeping oceanfront views to deep reverence for Balinese heritage, Jumeirah Bali presents a rare opportunity to experience Nyepi in its purest form.
