Sundance Mountain Resort is heading into winter with its biggest terrain expansion in years. The Utah resort has announced more than 100 new acres of skiable terrain, anchored by a new high-speed quad lift and a signature ridgeline run, rounding out the first phase of its back mountain expansion.
The additions bring Sundance’s total terrain to 605 acres and set the stage for further expert-terrain growth in seasons to come.
Electric Horseman: A Faster Way Into the Back Mountain
The new lift, named Electric Horseman, is built to solve one of the resort’s longstanding pinch points: access to the back mountain. With more than 1,850 vertical feet per lap, the high-speed quad gets skiers and riders from base to back mountain in about six minutes, cutting down congestion and opening up terrain that was previously harder to reach in a single, direct lap.
Storyteller: A New Signature Run
At the center of the expansion is Storyteller, a new ridgeline run carved out of what was formerly known as the Far East Ridgeline. Built as an upper-intermediate groomer, it’s designed around sweeping turns and some of the more expansive mountain views on the property. For skiers looking for more of a challenge, the run also feeds into three new expert gladed chutes that thread through tree-lined terrain on the way back to base.
The name is a nod to the resort’s roots — both the storytelling heritage tied to founder Robert Redford’s vision and the broader idea of the mountain as a place where guests leave with their own stories to tell.
Part of a Longer Build-Out
This expansion continues a multi-year run of upgrades at Sundance. The resort opened its Outlaw Express Lift in 2021, cutting the ride to Mandan Summit from 20 minutes down to seven. The following year brought more than 50 additional acres for intermediate terrain along with upgraded snowmaking. In 2023, the resort added the Mountain Camp Day Lodge, consolidating lockers, ticketing, ski school, and rentals into one base-area hub for day skiers.
