Things to do in the Isle of Wight

Just a ferry ride away lies the beautiful Isle of Wight, a popular destination for many staycationers travelling as a family, group of friends, or a couple.

With this in mind, we wanted to put together a few things you could do whilst visiting the Isle of Wight. So, whether you’ve booked one of the many family holidays UK holiday parks are offering, or you’re looking into visiting the island soon, here are just some of the places and activities you could immerse yourself in on your visit.

The Needles

This iconic Isle of Wight landmark is a must-see when visiting the island. There’s plenty to do when visiting The Needles, including a chairlift up the cliffs, creating your very own souvenir using the coloured sand found at The Needles site, Alum Bay Glass, the Isle of Wight Sweet manufactory, and so much more!

Facilities include a car park, disabled parking, disabled toilet, wheelchair user accessibility, baby changing, and a variety of catering options including a café, picnic area, restaurant, and takeaway spots just to name a few. There’s also a gift shop, beach and coastal paths where dogs are allowed on leads.

Monkey Haven

How about a visit to the gold award-winning primate rescue centre, Monkey Haven? A great day out for all ages, you’ll be able to view over 19 species including Mangabeys, Lar gibbons, Colobus monkeys, Javan langurs, the critically endangered Cotton-top tamarins, and so many more.

It’s not just primates you could be visiting here, but also reptiles, minibeasts and meerkats. Plus, if you’re lucky, you might even get the chance to hold a snake or get up close to an owl!

If the children need to let off some steam, there are two kid’s areas to explore too!

It’s good to note that Monkey Haven also offers a quiet hour to help welcome visitors with hidden disabilities and additional needs, so they too can experience what Monkey Haven has to offer. The Quiet Hour runs from 9 am to 10 am on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Facilities include free parking, disabled parking, disabled toilet, wheelchair user accessibility, baby changing, and a variety of catering options including a café, tea room, picnic area, and outdoor eating areas. There are also guided tours, a gift shop, and so much more to discover.

Osborne House

Once described by Queen Victoria, after a visit, as “impossible to imagine a prettier spot”, Osborne House is one of the most popular attractions to visit on the Isle of Wight.

What was once Queen Victoria’s family home, there is much to explore and discover when you visit, including Victorian opulence and extravagant interiors, alongside private apartments including the Queen’s bedroom, nursery rooms, and royal bathrooms. You’ll get to see the Swiss Cottage, which was a chalet built for the royal children, a Victorian Walled Garden, and so much more.

Facilities include free parking, disabled parking areas, wheelchair-user accessibility, and a variety of catering options including a café, picnic area and restaurant.

These are just three of the many places you could visit when you take a ferry across to the Isle of Wight.
