A familiar Grand Cayman resort site is preparing for another transformation. The property once occupied by Treasure Island Resort—and later operated as Margaritaville Beach Resort Grand Cayman—is no longer open to guests.
Plans have been approved to replace the former resort with a new Hyatt Centric hotel on West Bay Road, near the southern end of Seven Mile Beach.
From Treasure Island to Margaritaville
The property operated for many years as Treasure Island Resort, offering condominium-style accommodations, swimming pools and access to the coastline near Seven Mile Beach.
It was subsequently redeveloped and reopened under the Margaritaville Beach Resort brand. That operation later closed, and the property remained vacant while ownership and redevelopment plans were considered.
The site was sold in December 2024, setting the stage for another chapter in its long and sometimes complicated history.
A Hyatt Centric Hotel Is Planned
Grand Cayman’s Central Planning Authority approved plans for a new Hyatt Centric hotel on the former Treasure Island and Margaritaville site in 2025.
The proposed 10-story development is expected to combine hotel rooms with condominium residences. Plans have also included dining venues, a rooftop restaurant and bar, a swimming pool, fitness facilities, event spaces and recreational amenities.
Hyatt Centric properties are generally positioned as lifestyle hotels designed to connect guests with the character, restaurants and attractions of their surrounding destinations. The West Bay Road location would place the future hotel within convenient reach of George Town, Seven Mile Beach and many of Grand Cayman’s established dining and entertainment areas.
Construction and opening schedules can change, so travelers should not make plans around an anticipated completion date until Hyatt begins accepting reservations.

Travelers looking for an established resort on Seven Mile Beach can consider The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa, which offers direct beach access, resort dining, a large freshwater pool and Hibiscus Spa.
Another nearby option is the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort, located along the Seven Mile Beach resort corridor.
