Walk like an Egyptian… to Royal BC Museum from Fairmont Empress for Egypt: Time of Pharaohs Exhibit

Victoria, BC hosts North American debut and is the only Canadian stop for blockbuster exhibit

By crossing the street, guests can travel from a contemporary castle to a civilization along the Nile where pyramids dotted the skyline and gods were thought to walk among people. The Fairmont Empress in Victoria, BC is offering a special Bed, Breakfast & Mummies package to celebrate the North American debut – and only Canadian stop – for Egypt: Time of Pharaohs on at the Royal BC Museum through December 31, 2018. The package includes luxurious overnight accommodation, a pair of exhibit tickets, and breakfast for two in Q restaurant or through in-room dining. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 1 (800) 257-7544 or through the link.

Ideal for a fun (and educational!) family getaway, there is no charge for children 18 years and under who share a guestroom, children aged six to 11 receive 50% off the regular menu, and wee ones under five dine free from the children’s menu in Q at The Empress.

The not-to-be-missed show includes interactive displays and over 300 original artifacts with some that date back 4,500 years. Highlights include the 4,000 year old wooden coffin of Nakht, an exquisite gold and garnet necklace, and a 3,500 year old, 790-kilo bust of Hatshepsut, a woman who rose to become one of the 170 pharaohs. The collection was selected from the finest archeological compilations in the world: the University Museum in Aberdeen, Scotland, and three major Egyptian collections in Germany – the Egyptian Museum in Berlin, Roemer-und Pelizaeus Museum in Hildesheim, and Gustav Lubcke Museum in Hamm.

Fairmont Empress has been a cornerstone of the community since the doors swung open in 1908, and recently completed a spectacular $60 million restoration. With its unparalleled location that overlooks the harbour, the hotel is just steps to Beacon Hill Park, historic Chinatown, and Parliament Buildings. A designated heritage building, the hotel is home to the award-winning restaurant Q, legendary afternoon tea, Willow Stream spa, pool and Fairmont Gold.
