Private patios overlooking working vineyards, garden produce on the menu, and time to explore one of New Zealand’s best-known wine regions: The Marlborough Boutique Hotel & Vineyard is preparing to give travelers more reasons to linger.
The privately owned estate has announced plans to introduce 20 new Junior Suites in January 2027, accompanied by a dedicated wellness space, gym, and a new reception and dining hub. Set across 16 acres of gardens and vineyards, the expansion will add contemporary accommodation beyond the property’s historic 10-room House.
The intention is to make the estate a fuller part of a Marlborough itinerary, with opportunities to spend a day enjoying its gardens, food, wine, and wellness facilities between excursions around the region.
New Suites Among the Vines and Gardens
The new accommodation will be arranged across six pavilions positioned throughout the estate. With a small number of suites in each building, the layout is designed to preserve privacy while placing guests close to the gardens and working vineyard.
Each Junior Suite will measure 517 square feet and feature a king bed, a spacious living area, a freestanding bathtub, and a large walk-in rainfall shower. A private patio will extend the room outdoors, with views of either the gardens or the vines.
Inside, natural textures, warm autumnal colors, and contemporary furnishings will take their cues from the estate’s setting. The emphasis is on comfortable spaces suited to an unhurried stay, whether that means reading on the patio or returning from a day of wine tasting.
For families and friends traveling together, a Family Suite option will provide 861 square feet across two interconnecting rooms and two bathrooms. The arrangement offers shared accommodation with room for guests to maintain their own space.
Junior Suite guests will check in at the new reception and dining hub before traveling through the grounds to their accommodation by electric cart.

A Dedicated Space for Wellness
The expansion will introduce a wellness area with four treatment rooms, a sauna, and cold plunge facilities. A space for private Pilates and yoga sessions, together with a separate gym, will broaden the ways guests can spend time on the property.
These additions will complement the estate’s walking trails and gardens, offering opportunities to combine outdoor time with treatments and movement sessions.
For travelers building a busy New Zealand itinerary, the new facilities make a longer stop in Marlborough appealing: a day exploring wineries can be followed by a quieter day on the estate.
The Source Brings a Relaxed Dining Option
Executive Chef Wieland Matzig will oversee The Source, a new casual restaurant focused on wood-fired gourmet pizzas, seasonal dishes, and produce grown in the estate’s gardens.
Open to all guests, The Source will complement Harvest Restaurant, which will continue to offer the property’s more refined dining experience, centered on fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients.
The two restaurants will give guests different ways to enjoy the estate’s food offering, with the vegetable gardens providing a tangible connection between the grounds and the table.
Owner Angela Dillon says the new facilities are intended to encourage guests to spend more of their visit on the property.
“Together with the new wellness and dining spaces, guests can experience much more of Marlborough without necessarily having to leave the property,” she says.
A Historic House at the Heart of the Estate
The original House will remain central to The Marlborough’s identity. Built as a convent in 1901 and later restored, it now offers 10 rooms in a setting that evokes a welcoming country home.
House guests have access to exclusive spaces, including the Chapel Bar, where hosted cocktails and canapés are served each evening, along with the courtyard, heated outdoor swimming pool, private gardens, and games area.
The new suites will provide a contemporary alternative within the same estate. Guests across the property will be able to enjoy guided and self-guided experiences through the organic vineyards, established gardens, walking trails, and vegetable gardens.
The property also highlights on-site wine experiences, four grass tennis courts, and private dining at the Secret Garden Shack. A children’s program includes hands-on activities such as meeting farm animals, vegetable gardening, and lawn games.
Exploring Marlborough Beyond the Estate
The hotel’s location provides a base for exploring the upper South Island. Regional wineries, the waterways of the Marlborough Sounds, the Queen Charlotte Track, and the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre are among the experiences guests can include in their stay.
The concierge team can help shape outings around individual interests, from food and wine to walking, scenery, and aviation history. Travelers extending their trip can also find ideas in DRIFT’s guide to New Zealand’s hidden gems, which includes the Marlborough Sounds.
The Marlborough is approximately 10 minutes from Blenheim Airport and 15 minutes from central Blenheim, making it a convenient countryside stop with access to the wider region.
The new Junior Suites are scheduled to welcome guests from January 2027. Further information is available through The Marlborough Boutique Hotel & Vineyard.
