From November 2nd to 5th, Los Cabos, Mexico, will host the PGA Tour’s World Wide Technology Championship (WWT), one of golf’s most prestigious international championships. With a purse of $8.2 million USD, the competition will unfold at the beautiful El Cardonal Golf Course, located on the grounds of the Diamante Resort in Cabo San Lucas.
The 2023 edition of the WWT marks the first time Los Cabos has been chosen as a venue for the event; one of two FedExCup events in the country in conjunction with the Mexican Open in Vidanta. Since 2007, the PGA Tour has visited the country every year, representing its first full-field event outside of the United States or Canada.
The 2023 WWT will see 132 professional golfers compete to secure their place among the top 125 for the upcoming season in January 2024. Some notable participants will include Russell Henley, Viktor Hovland, and Brendon Todd.
This event will serve as a showcase of leadership, technological innovation, and diversity thanks to the partnership with World Wide Technology: a global technology solutions provider valued at $17 billion. The Championship is expected to positively benefit Los Cabos’ tourism sector, increasing hotel occupancy rates by up to 80% and contributing approximately $25 million USD in economic benefits.
The chosen venue for the tournament – the Diamante Resort – spans approximately 1,500 acres of pristine land with 1.5 miles of coastline. Diamante is an exclusive private resort along the coast of Los Cabos at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico, featuring 18 premier golf courses designed by greats like Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods.
Of these 18 courses, 12 have been recognized as the best in Mexico by Golf Digest magazine. The Cardonal Course, where the championship will take place, was designed by Tiger Woods, an 82-time PGA Tour winner, who drew inspiration from the Golden Age courses of the West Coast where Tiger played throughout his career. This course offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, natural streams and dunes that complement the landscape, and spacious landing areas with varying angles to reach the greens. Additionally, The Cardonal encourages players of all levels, leading to a memorable and enjoyable experience.
